Readers of the Week- October 24th

This week our readers of the week were Ray and Kendall. Ray read "There's a Fly guy in My Soup." Like I said last week, the Fly Guy series is one of the favorites among first grade students. This particular book is formatted as a short chapter book. If your child is interested in chapter books, I would recommend starting with this type of book. It has less  text on the pages compared to traditional chapter books and can get a child's confidence up before starting harder chapter books. Ray read the first two chapters of the book. Several students are looking forward to finishing the book in our classroom library!

Kendall read "Don't  Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" This series is also very popular in my classroom. In fact, most of the Pigeon series books have to go to the "book hospital" because they are falling apart! Kendall, who wants to be a teacher one day, did a great job reading to the class just like I do!

Readers of the week- October 16th

Our readers of the week were John and Brenna. They did a great job. They both chose books that were funny and interesting. John read "A Pet For Fly Guy." The class really enjoys the Fly Guy series. He likes this book because he thinks everyone needs a pet.

Brenna chose "I Am Invited to a Party!" She likes this book because the main character, Piggy, gets to go to a party! Brenna just recently had her own birthday party!!
They did a wonderful job! I can't wait to continue hearing them share their favorite books with the class!

Readers of the week- October 10th

Last week Cade and Hailey were our first readers of the week! They did a GREAT job. I am so glad they were able to get student interested in these books.

Hailey read "You Will Be My Friend!" She chose this book because it is about friendship. She read the book to the class the same day Coach BJ spoke about friendship in chapel.

Cade read "Seeing Symmetry." He chose this book because it teaches symmetry. This book is so cool because not only does it explain what symmetry is but also has tons of real life examples of objects that are symmetrical.
I put their pictures on the hall bulletin board this week and I saw some 2nd grade students checking out Cade's picture then overheard them talking about symmetry while they were walking to lunch. I got to show the 2nd graders the book and talk about it with them. That is why I love this project so much! So many new book (from the classroom library, homes, and the elementary library) have been recommended and enjoyed by this project.

Parents, thank you for helping your child find and practice reading their book!
