Reader of the week- Rachel and Mac

This week Rachel read a very popular book written by Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat! This is a great book to teach students about rhyming and fluency.
Mac read a very interesting nonfiction text, Bats. He was able to explains some new words to the class, like nocturnal.
I know the students love seeing each other's pictures and favorite books in the hallway. So many new books have been   read because of the recommendations my student have made. I would love for them to see pictures of their parents and other adults with their favorite books. If you're interested, you can email a picture of yourself with your favorite children's book to Mrs. Foval. Also, tell us why you like that book. I look forward to sharing your picture and favorite children's book with the class!

Verbin' out

One of my favorite things to teach in grammar is verbs. The kids loved learning about them acting the verbs out, of course! Each student chose a verb to act out. Unfortunately, some of the actions were too fast for my iPhone!

Big Buddies- November

We love getting to visit with our Big Buddies from Miss Rivers' advisory group. We made a "Thankful Tree" using hands for leaves. They loved getting to make something together as a class.

Thanksgiving Shenanigans

I absolutely love getting to celebrate Thanksgiving with my first graders! This week we did tons of Thanksgiving themed writing. We read the book Turkey Trouble, a hilarious book about a turkey who dresses up as a pizza delivery guy so he wouldn't get eaten on Thanksgiving.

The students wrote about how they would disguise themselves if they were a turkey on Thanksgiving.
We also have been learning about different features of nonfiction texts. One of the features is lists. So everyone made a list of eight things they would bring with them on the Mayflower.
