Shake, Rattle, and Roll!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! I was so eager to see the kids after Christmas break and hear about all the excitement that had happened while we were out. It sounds like everyone had a great holiday! Over the past two weeks, we have been learning about place value, tens, and ones. They have really grasped the concept of place value and have enjoyed the extra activities we have been doing. They built two digit numbers using tens rods and one cubes with a partner this week.

One of my favorite things is to allow the students to teach their classmates. Since the students have been so focused on mastering this skill, they had the opportunity to lead the class in counting their base ten blocks.

We also played "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" with dice. Each student had their own die and was able to roll the die to make a two digit number. Then they could draw the number using tens rods and ones block and write an expanded form addition sentence for the number. The kids loved getting to use dice!

I also wanted to thank everyone for helping out with "Reader of the Week!" The bulletin board is finished! Look at all those amazing readers!
