Readers of the week- October 31st

This week Eddie and Claire were our readers of the week. Eddie read "How to Train Your Dragon 2." The kids were so excited to read this book because most of them have seen the movie. He likes this book because everyone gets a dragon!

Claire read "Do You Have a Tail?" The kids loving having the little mouse "read" to them! She likes this book because it talks about the five senses! 

Fun Fall Friday

Today we were able to do some special fall activities. This morning I read the book "Leaf Man" to the class. The book is about how  a man made of leaves gets blown to different places and never knows where he will end up. The kids got to do a leaf rubbing and write about where the wind would blow them if they were a leaf.

Mrs. Cori brought the class to the science lab and let them create their own special trail mix treat! They decorated a  pumpkin while waiting their turn! 

(He's lifting his "dumbbell." Ha!)

Happy Fall Y'all- pumpkins!

 All week long we have been learning about pumpkins. It's been so fun to see what the kids already know but also to watch them learn new things. We created interactive notebooks this week where we put all the pumpkin information and activities. Here are a few pictures from the pumpkin activities we did this week:

On Monday, we discussed what we already knew about pumpkins.

On Tuesday, we estimated the circumference and height of the pumpkin using cubes and yarn. 

Then we measured to see how close our predictions were to the actual lengths. 

We predicted whether a pumpkin would sink or float. We also predicted how many seeds would be in a pumpkin. Any guesses? 

Here are the results (and the surprised faces!):

59 seeds was the final count! 

On Thursday we had a pumpkin tasting! We tasted pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin seeds. You can tell from the pictures if they like pumpkin or not. Haha! We graphed our favorites while we were tasting! 

We had a great time this week in the science lab!!
