K9 Community Helpers

This week we are learning about community helpers. This is always one of my favorite units because there are so many fun things we get to do! On Tuesday, Officer T.J. and Officer Tom from the Baton Rouge Police Department K9 Unit spoke to the First Grade students about how they help our community. They brought their dogs, Zoro and Tag. The kids were so intrigued by how well the dogs listened. They even learned the hand signals for come, sit, and heel. The officers told the students about how they train the dogs and also the different ways that they use the dogs to keep our community safe. The officers showed the kids what it looks like when the dog bites a bad guy. The kids had a lot of great questions for the officers. Then of course, they got to pet the dogs!
